Atlantic Puffins
My 3rd visit to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve was a unique experience. July 7, 2022. Foggy, rainy and high waves (2-4 meters). Our Zodiak adventure was cancelled in favour of a small tourist boat to accommodate the 15 of us. We climbed up and slid down the waves on the way to Puffin Rock. On arrival it was a tad more calm but up on the open, top deck, we had to grab on to something in order to take photos of the Atlantic Puffins, Razorbills and Herring Gulls. I had my 100--400 m zoom lens covered in a "camera rain coat". The waves had their effect on me so I wasn't feeling 100%. I tried to gain my balance--decided to sit on one of the benches to take photos--ended up sitting in a pool of water. So I tried to steady the camera lens and take as many photos as possible. Flash forward to 4:00 pm, back in my room at the Sheraton, after a sleep and several aspirins. I started to look at the photos, thinking that none would be in focus (due to the rough waters ) and none would be visible (due to the fog and the rain). Much to my shock, my photos came out OK. Here then is a slide show of the Puffins!
And just a few photos from my 2019 visit...
